Herbert L. Clarke
Herbert L. Clarke was the featured soloist with many of the bands featured at Willow Grove Park. As a soloist and arranger of music for his instrument, he and Arthur Pryor assumed a unique and important role as the virtuoso soloist at the turn of the 20th Century. The serious student or historian is encouraged to research the music and the musician.
From the 1903 promotional booklet:
"Herbert Clarke will bring to the Park for an engagement of three weeks his own organization, known as Clarke's Providence Band. The playing of Mr. Clarke's Band in the summer of 1902 was the feature of the season. It has been strengthened by the addition of many talented musicians."
