Arthur Pryor
Pryor's Band
Arthur Pryor was a composer as a featured trombone soloist with
Sousas band. By 1909 he had formed his own band and was
doing the tour circuit. He also wrote marches and concert
compositions.
The 1909 Willow Grove Park Promotional Booklet states:
"Arthur Pryor is America's youngest and most brilliant bandmaster. He
typifies that originality in native band music which makes him a
national character, and his return to Willow Grove Park this
season marks an event in the realm of Music . Mr. Pryor, during
the past winter, has devoted his time almost exclusively to the
composition of new music. He has several new and stirring
marches, ballads, waltzes and dances, which will be heard for the
first time during his engagement in the park. Mr. Pryor will also
be heard in many solos on the trombone, an instrument he excels
at, and on which he has delighted hundreds of thousands of
people, both in this country and abroad."
